Methodology
A framework for measuring social understanding in children
Nakamura, A., Berg, H.
An overview of the six-dimension model behind Sequence and the reasoning that informs it.
Sequence measures social understanding across six interrelated dimensions: perception, interpretation, emotional understanding, intent understanding, sequence understanding, and generalization.
Each dimension captures a distinct facet of how a child makes sense of a social situation. Together they form a profile — a balanced view that resists collapsing a child into a single score.
This document outlines the reasoning behind the framework and how each dimension is operationalized within video-based scenarios. Full methodology and validation work will be published as it matures.
